In other news, have you ever seen a shoplifter try and resist being containted
by a security guard much bigger than he/she? Me and a couple co-workers
came up with a few different terms to describe what they look like:
-A new born baby (just out of their mothers inards squirming around not knowing
how to control their own limbs
-A turtle on it's back
-I forgot the other one... hey look! cheap laughs!

Actually it is kind of sad... that turtle should just give back the ninja turtles box
set it tried to take.

There's no sex in your violence...

Yesterday at work the first buy I did was for a late-thirties or early-forties guy selling kids dvds. He casually mentioned when I was finishing up that today he has an audition to play bass for Gavin Rosdale. After he saw that I wasn't really interested he said: "I figured since you worked at a record store you'd be able to appreciate that." I then mentioned that I enjoyed bush's first releases, but his new stuff sucks... he agreed and said he was only auditioning because if he got the "gig" it would pay 300 bucks a night (sell out?)

Either way I didn't really understand why the guy would want to quit his job to play bass for Gavin Rosdale for a few weeks, especially when he has kids, and is selling their dvds (he even haggled me into paying him five bucks, 50¢ more than my orginal offer) so he can buy a pack of smokes. It just doesn't seem like a good decision..

Pedophile? Or just looking for hot young love?

This past weekend at work a girl came up to the buy counter to sell some c.d.s, no surprise there. Shortly after she came up a middle-aged kinda, kinda nerdy looking guy, whom bought at least 3 c.d.s from the new age section, came up to talk to her. Nothing really out of the ordinary, I just assumed that it was her uncle or something. After talking at this poor girl for about 10 minutes, he asks the girl if she wants to go grab a cup of coffee and talk about art sometime. The girl smiled and said that she couldn't, after the guy said he wasn't trying to hit on her and that he really just wanted to hang out. After he left me and the girl had a good laugh and she told me he was in one of her classes at cal state east bay, and that she was glad he graduated.

The whole time I was trying to think o f a song that could describe this situation and I think I finally came up with something....

Greetings to all who are actually interested in my blog!
I'm starting this blog to kind of journal and share with
ya'll the crazy happenings I experience and crazy
characters I meet working at an independent record
store in the bay area. I usually get shifts working as
a "buyer" which is the guy that buys stuff off you at
the store... hence buy counter... in buy counter blues
(thanks for the idea Trevor!) and also you know...
whatever else I feel like posting about.... hopefully
this thing lasts!
